iRite is WebAssist's new Dreamweaver extension that adds a WYSIWYG text editor to form fields on your website. This allows your web visitors to enter XHTML formatted text into form fields, and can also be used as an easy-to-use text editor in data management pages and website content management systems.
The function of FCKeditor with the power of Dreamweaver
iRite is based on the popular open source FCKeditor and seamlessly integrates with Dreamweaver. If you've ever tried to install a WYSIWYG editor such as FCKeditor or TinyMCE into a website, you know configuration can be a nightmare. iRite takes the pain out of incorporating a full-featured text editor in your websites.
iRite generates the code for you
iRite is configured through a simple Dreamweaver wizard and walks you through the steps needed to insert it into your web forms. You have complete control over the controls that are displayed within the iRite menu bar. If you just want to give users a very basic set of editing tools, simply include menu buttons such as bold, italics, unordered list and text alignment. If you want to give more formatting freedom, you can include a full set of 60 buttons for advanced editing.
Fully editable style sheet inclusion
Style sheets can be included for use in the iRite editor. Simply specify the external style sheet you wish to use and select the styles to appear in the iRite styles drop-down menu. Users will then have access to your list of approved CSS formatting styles.
If you are using iRite as the basis of a CMS editor, by using the extra stylesheet you can also format your page in the detail page to look exactly like your published page. This allows for catching formatting errors before your page is live.
Microsoft Word cut-and-paste code clean up
One of the biggest issues with WYSIWYG text editors occurs when users paste content directly from Microsoft Word. Word uses rather ugly text formatting by default, but iRite automatically detects a Word paste and cleans up the code to be valid XHTML 1.0.
Dreamweaver integration makes WYSIWYG a snap
The biggest advantage of using WebAssist iRite is the fact that it is accessed directly within Dreamweaver. You don't have to dive into a config file and mess with settings that are difficult to understand even for advanced developers. Simply run the wizard, set your options, and upload your files to your server. It doesn't get any easier.
Dreamweaver compatibility
iRite is compatible with Dreamweaver 8, Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4 on both Mac and Windows. It works with ColdFusion 6.x and later, ASP JavaScript, ASP VBScript and PHP 4.2+. Databases can include Microsoft Access, SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL 4 and 5. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer 5.5+, Firefox 1.5+, Safari 3.0+, Opera 9.5+, Netscape 7.1+ and Camino 1.0.
